So, you want to serve on a public board? Boards get involved in many topics. This session will cover the Board’s role versus management’s role in topics such as: Succession Planning, Stakeholder Relationships, Strategy, and Crisis Management.  Join us as two public board directors, with extensive senior management backgrounds, share their experiences and counsel on this key aspect of corporate governance.


Willow B. Shire
has been an Independent Director of The TJX Companies, Inc. since 1995, where she is a member of the Compensation Committee and chairs the Nominating/Corporate Governance Committee. She also served as an Independent Director of Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. with an emphasis on shareholder relationships and corporate governance.  Additionally, she has been involved with director education for several director organization including Board Leaders, Women Corporate Directors and the National Association for Corporate Directors. Willow founded Orchard Consulting Group in 1994 and specialized in leadership development and strategic problem solving. Prior to consulting, she spent 20 years in the computer industry, employed by Digital Equipment Corporation and Hewlett Packard in various positions in the marketing and human resources departments. As VP and Officer for the Health Industries Business Unit at Digital, she managed a $1B global business dealing with pharmaceutical companies, regulators, insurers, and healthcare providers.  Willow volunteers locally in leadership positions with the arts community on Cape Cod and, internationally, with the US Fund for UNICEF.  She holds a BS from Boston University and an MA from Harvard’s School of Education.

Dr. Jill Wittels
, President and Chief Operating Officer of Nexteon Technologies, Inc (formerly Route Dynamics Corporation), has a 30+ year history in aerospace and defense as well as 2 decades of working with early stage companies and mentoring entrepreneurs.  She is the Board Chair for eMagin Corp (EMAN) and Board Chair for Hilltop Biosciences. She serves as Director of other private companies, as a CEO mentor, and an angel investor. She has also had nonprofit experience for nearly 20 years on the Board of Directors of Fermi Research Alliance, which operated the DOE’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Dr. Wittels has consulted for top ranked Aerospace and Defense enterprises.  She has a wealth of experience in aerospace, P&L responsibility, operational leadership in technology companies, and strategic thinking for large and small enterprises. Jill has a BS and a PhD in Physics from MIT.  She is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, Women Corporate Directors, the American College of Corporate Directors, and The Boston Club as well as the American Physical Society.
